“Mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. ” – Thomas Jefferson
The march toward total emasculation of the US Constitution that the progressives have been working toward is almost completed. Many in the movement are no longer pushing the pretext of respecting the foundation of our government they are openly trashing.
For example, in an interview, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg advised countries in the 21st Century not to look to the US Constitution as an example in drafting their own constitutions. Instead she recommended using the South African Constitution, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms or the European Convention on Human Rights.
How can Justice Ginsburg say this when she took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States? It’s because, like all progressives, she believes it is a severely flawed and antiquated document. Most progressives do not believe in the divine nature of man and therefore there aren’t unalienable rights that are granted by a creator to individuals regardless of whatever government they happen to be born under.
They believe Government is the granter of all basic human rights not the creator.
Most of the examples she cited as better examples when crafting a modern constitution Concern themselves solely on so called “Rights” the government should owe you for example a home, work etc. When these documents do cite what we call unalienable rights such as freedom of speech etc it usually comes with caveats as in Canada against what is defined by the government as speech against the community. Who usually defines these caveats you might ask the answer is the government.
The exercise of ones unalienable rights to free speech and to practice ones faith also has “caveats” as defined by the progressives. These limits especially come into play when it goes against so called governmental granted “rights” that everyone is entitled to free birth control and abortion. In response to the rollout of the HHS Guidelines for the new Federal Healthcare law which mandates that all health-care plans in the United States cover sterilizations and contraceptives, including those that cause abortions the head of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese for the Military Services, Archbishop Timothy Broglio, issued a letter to be read at Sunday mass for military personnel around the world. In the letter he stated: “It is a blow to a freedom that you have fought to defend and for which you have seen your buddies fall in battle,” In another line the archbishop wrote. “We cannot—we will not—comply with this unjust law.” The US Army’s Office of the Chief of Chaplains ordered that Catholic priests serving as Army chaplains not to read the archbishop’s letter during mass.
As stated in my last article the rights of those who want you to pay for these services outweighs your right to your own conscience.
The nudge of the progressives for their policies on social engineering and redistribution of wealth as they see fit has now turned into a shove with financial penalties. Many Catholic and other religious charitable institutions if they follow through on their threat to not violate their beliefs will be forced to shut down because of the huge fines they will be accessed if the federal government enforces this blatantly unconstitutional law. Some have stated this might be their ultimate goal of socializing charitable institutions.
The administration says it is willing to compromise by now stating these institutions do not have to pay for these “services”. The ruse they are using is that the insurance companies will offer these free. This is a sham since many of these religious institutions are self insured or they will undoubtedly have to pay through increased premiums.
The very fact that the administration thinks they can “order” insurance companies to provide payment for services free of charge through executive fiat shows how far we have stayed away from the constitution and individual liberty. The federal Government can legalize theft as long as they consider it for the greater good.
Will the American people as Thomas Jefferson observed in the quote at the beginning of this article continue to “suffer, while evils are sufferable” or will we “right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.” We my friends are at the crossroads lets pray its not too late.
